How to Open a JustMarkets Demo Account?
Learn how to open a free JustMarkets demo account on MT4 or MT5, pick the right account type, set a realistic balance, avoid archiving, understand demo vs live differences and follow a 30-day practice plan.
To open a JustMarkets demo account, register a free Personal Area (or log in to the one you have), go to Account Operations → My Accounts, click Open New Account, pick an account type and platform, then click Try Demo. You choose the currency, leverage, a trading password and the virtual balance you want, and click Create Account. The demo appears in your Personal Area alongside any real accounts. It costs nothing, needs no deposit, and you can open as many MT4 and MT5 demos as you like across all four account types: Standard Cent, Standard, Pro and Raw Spread.
That is the quick version. A demo account is only as useful as the way you use it, though, so this guide goes further: how to set the demo up so it actually resembles the real account you plan to trade, how to connect it to MetaTrader on desktop, web and mobile, how to top up the virtual balance, why demos disappear after inactivity, where demo trading differs from live trading, and a structured 30-day practice plan with clear criteria for when (or whether) to move to real money.
All of the steps and rules below come from JustMarkets' own help centre and account pages. Where the broker does not publish something, we say so rather than fill the gap.
If you want to follow along, you can grab a free JustMarkets practice account in minutes and keep this guide open in another tab while you set it up.
How to Open a JustMarkets Demo Account: Step by Step
JustMarkets attaches demo accounts to your Personal Area, its main account dashboard, rather than handing them out as stand-alone logins. That means the first step for a new user is a quick registration. Existing clients can skip straight to step 3.
Step 1: Register a Personal Area
On the official website or in the JustMarkets Trading app, click Registration. Select your country of residence, enter your email and create a password. JustMarkets requires the password to be 8 to 15 characters with at least one digit, both uppercase and lowercase Latin letters, at least one special character and at least three unique characters. You can also register with a Google or Facebook account. Click Create Account and accept the terms.
Choose your real country of residence even though you only want a demo for now. If you later decide to trade with real money, the same Personal Area is used and your details will need to match your documents.
Step 2: Confirm your email
Check your inbox for messages from JustMarkets. Verifying your email through the Settings page is the first stage of the broker's verification flow and is good practice regardless. Document verification is part of opening a real account; the help centre describes demo accounts as free and added to your Personal Area without mentioning a document requirement.
Step 3: Go to My Accounts
In the Personal Area menu, open Account Operations and choose the My Accounts tab. This page lists every trading account you have, with separate tabs for real and demo accounts.
Step 4: Click Open New Account
Click Open New Account. You will see the four account types with their trading terms summarised.
Step 5: Pick the account type and platform, then Try Demo
Choose the account type you want to practise on and the platform, MT4 or MT5, then click Try Demo rather than Open Real Account. More on choosing the right type in the next section.
Step 6: Choose currency and leverage
Select the account currency and the leverage. For the most realistic practice, use the same currency and leverage you intend to use on a real account later.
Step 7: Set a trading password
Create a trading password of 8 to 15 symbols including uppercase and lowercase Latin letters, at least one digit and one special character. This password is for the MetaTrader account, separate from your Personal Area password.
Step 8: Set the virtual balance and create the account
Enter the amount of virtual money you want and click Create Account. The demo account now appears under the Demo tab of My Accounts, with its login number and server details.
| Step | Where | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Website or app | Register a Personal Area (skip if you have one) |
| 2 | Email / Settings | Confirm your email |
| 3 | Account Operations → My Accounts | Open the accounts page |
| 4 | My Accounts | Click Open New Account |
| 5 | Account type screen | Pick type and MT4/MT5, click Try Demo |
| 6 | Account settings | Choose currency and leverage |
| 7 | Account settings | Set a trading password |
| 8 | Account settings | Set virtual balance, click Create Account |
Which Demo Account Type Should You Choose?
A demo is most valuable when it mirrors the real account you are likely to use. Each JustMarkets account type has different pricing and lot conventions, so practising on the wrong one can give you a false impression of costs. The figures below are the real-account conditions published by JustMarkets at the time of writing; the demo is designed to reproduce them.
| Account type | Spread from | Commission | Lot convention | Real minimum deposit | Practise on it if... |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Cent | 0.3 pips | None | Balance in US cents (USC); 0.01 cent lot minimum | $10 | You plan to start live trading with a very small balance |
| Standard | 0.3 pips | None | Standard lots; 0.01 lot minimum | $10 | You want the all-round, commission-free account |
| Pro | 0.1 pips | None | Standard lots; 0.01 lot minimum | $200 | You expect to deposit $200 or more and want tighter spreads |
| Raw Spread | 0.0 pips | $3 per lot per side ($3.5 on XAUUSD and XAGUSD) | Standard lots; 0.01 lot minimum | $200 | You trade frequently or short-term and want raw pricing plus commission |
Some practical guidance:
- Testing a strategy you will trade with a small live balance? Use a Standard Cent demo with a small virtual balance. Cent accounts display balances in cents, which feels different and is worth getting used to.
- Comparing costs between account types? Open one Standard and one Raw Spread demo and run the same trades on both for a couple of weeks. Add commission to the spread to compare the true cost per trade.
- Testing scalping or very short holding times? Raw Spread or Pro is the more relevant demo. Our guide on whether JustMarkets allows scalping explains the trading-style side.
- Want stocks, indices and crypto? The Standard Cent account covers forex and commodities only, so use a Standard, Pro or Raw Spread demo for the wider instrument list.
MT4 or MT5 for your demo?
Both are available for every account type, and JustMarkets lets you open as many of each as you want. MT5 offers more timeframes, more built-in indicators, an economic calendar and a depth-of-market view; MT4 remains popular for its huge library of third-party indicators and Expert Advisors. If you are new and have no legacy tools, MT5 is the more modern starting point. If you already rely on an MT4 Expert Advisor, test it on an MT4 demo. Remember that an MT4 login will not work in MT5 and vice versa.
Choosing a realistic virtual balance
The help centre lets you set the balance yourself. The single most common demo mistake is practising with a balance far larger than you would ever deposit. A $100,000 demo trains you to take positions that would be reckless on a $500 account. Set the demo balance to the amount you realistically plan to fund. You can raise it later, but JustMarkets notes that you cannot set the balance below the current amount, so starting high and going lower is not possible on the same account; you would need to open a new demo instead.
Choosing leverage on a demo
International JustMarkets accounts offer leverage up to 1:3000. On a demo it is tempting to choose the maximum, but the right setting is the one you will use live. High leverage does not change the profit or loss of a given position size; it changes how much margin that position ties up, which affects how close you are to a margin call (40%) and stop-out (20%). Practising with the leverage you will actually use teaches you where those levels sit for your own balance.
Connecting Your Demo Account to MetaTrader
Once the demo exists, you need to log in to it on a trading platform. The account number, trading password and server appear in your Personal Area (and the server name is also visible in the account details). JustMarkets supports several ways to trade.
On a Windows PC or Mac
- Download MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 from the JustMarkets download page, making sure the version matches your demo.
- Install and open the terminal.
- Choose File → Login to Trade Account.
- Enter your demo account number and trading password, and select the demo server shown for your account.
- Confirm. The connection indicator in the bottom-right corner should show data flowing, and Market Watch fills with instruments.
For a full desktop walk-through, including common installation issues, see our guide on how to download JustMarkets on PC.
In a web browser
JustMarkets also offers the MetaTrader WebTerminal, which runs in a browser without installing anything. Log in with the same demo account number, password and server. It is convenient for checking positions from a work computer or a shared device where you cannot install software, though the desktop terminal offers more tools.
On your phone
You have two mobile options: the official MetaTrader 4 or 5 app, where you search for the JustMarkets server and log in with your demo credentials, or the JustMarkets Trading app for iOS and Android, which combines account management with trading. Practising on mobile is worthwhile if you expect to trade on your phone, because order entry, stop-loss placement and chart reading feel quite different on a small screen.
Check you are on the right account
JustMarkets uses symbol suffixes to identify account types: .c for Standard Cent, .m for Standard (with .std on indices), .s for Pro and .ecn for Raw Spread. If you see EURUSD.ecn in Market Watch, you are on a Raw Spread account. Symbols shown in light grey or with a .view suffix are for viewing only and cannot be traded.
Managing Your Demo: Balance Top-Ups, Multiple Accounts and Archiving
How to change the demo balance
Blown your demo account, or want to test a larger balance? JustMarkets' process is:
- Log in to your Personal Area.
- Go to Account Operations → My Accounts.
- Select the Demo tab.
- Choose the demo account and click Change Balance.
- Enter the new balance and click Change.
The new balance cannot be lower than the current amount. If you want to restart with a smaller balance, open a fresh demo account; it takes about a minute. Resetting is also a useful discipline: if you blow up a demo, write down why before you top it up, otherwise the reset teaches nothing.
Running several demos at once
Because there is no limit on the number of demo accounts, you can run parallel experiments: one demo per strategy, or one per account type. Name them in your trading journal so you can compare results. A simple set-up for a beginner is one Standard Cent demo for live-like small-balance practice and one Standard or Raw Spread demo for testing strategy rules at normal lot sizes.
Why demo accounts disappear: archiving rules
JustMarkets archives inactive accounts, and the demo rules are stricter than many traders expect. According to its help centre:
| Platform | Demo account archived when |
|---|---|
| MT4 | There has been no login to the account for 45 days |
| MT5 | There has been no trading activity for 14 days and there are no open trades |
Trading activity means opening, closing or modifying a position or pending order. In practice, an MT5 demo you leave untouched for two weeks is likely to vanish. If you only practise occasionally, either keep a small position or pending order open, trade at least once every couple of weeks, or simply accept that you will open a new demo when you come back.
Swaps apply on demo accounts
JustMarkets notes that demo accounts always come with swaps, the overnight financing charge or credit applied to positions held past the daily rollover. That is useful realism: if you hold trades for days, you will see how swaps affect results. If you intend to trade live on a swap-free (Islamic) account, remember the demo will still show swaps, so mentally adjust your results or ask support how swap-free conditions would apply to the instruments you trade.
Demo vs Real: What a JustMarkets Demo Can and Cannot Teach You
JustMarkets is clear that demo accounts reproduce real trading conditions as closely as possible but are not identical. Quotes on demo charts are as close as possible to real ones, while the simulated liquidity differs from the live server, and all demo trades are processed internally without reaching the financial markets.
| Aspect | Demo account | Real account |
|---|---|---|
| Money at risk | None; virtual funds | Your own deposit |
| Price quotes | As close as possible to live quotes | Live quotes |
| Liquidity and fills | Simulated; trades handled internally | Real liquidity; slippage and partial fills can occur |
| Swaps | Always applied | Applied unless the account is swap-free |
| Emotions | Low pressure | Fear and greed affect decisions |
| Profit | Cannot be withdrawn | Can be withdrawn, subject to the usual checks |
| Inactivity archiving | MT4: 45 days without login; MT5: 14 days without trading | Different, longer rules tied to activity and balance |
What a demo is excellent for
- Learning the platform: order types, stop-loss and take-profit placement, one-click trading, chart templates.
- Understanding margin, leverage and how the margin level moves as positions open.
- Testing Expert Advisors and indicators before they touch real money.
- Checking that a strategy's rules are clear enough to follow consistently.
- Comparing account types and the real cost of spreads plus commissions.
What a demo cannot fully teach
- How you behave when real money is at stake, especially after a loss.
- Execution realities during fast markets, such as slippage around major news releases.
- The discipline needed to stick to position sizes when a trade feels "certain".
This is why many traders treat the Standard Cent account as a second training stage: real money and real execution, but in amounts small enough that mistakes are cheap. Before you move to either, it is worth reviewing the broker's current platforms and conditions; you can explore the JustMarkets platforms before you practise on the official site and compare them with what you see in your demo.
A 30-Day JustMarkets Demo Practice Plan
Opening a demo takes minutes; using it well takes structure. Here is a plan that works for most beginners. Adjust the pace to your schedule.
Week 1: Platform fluency
- Open one demo matching your intended live account, with realistic balance and leverage.
- Place market orders, pending orders (buy limit, sell stop and so on), stop-losses and take-profits on a major pair such as EURUSD.
- Learn to calculate position size so a stop-loss risks a fixed percentage of the balance, such as 1%.
- Watch the margin level as you open positions and note where the 40% margin call and 20% stop-out would be reached.
Week 2: Write and follow a simple plan
- Write down entry rules, exit rules, risk per trade and the instruments you will trade.
- Take only trades that meet your rules and log every one: date, instrument, direction, size, entry, stop, target, result and a sentence on why.
- Avoid news releases for now, so you learn the basics without extreme volatility.
Week 3: Costs and conditions
- Open a second demo of a different account type and repeat a sample of trades on both to compare total costs.
- Hold a few positions overnight to see swaps in action.
- Try one news release with tiny size to see how spreads and prices behave.
Week 4: Review and decide
- Review your log: did you follow your rules? What was your average win and loss? How large was the worst losing streak?
- Decide honestly whether you are ready for a small live account, need another month of demo, or prefer not to trade with real money.
Criteria for moving from demo to real money
- You have followed your written rules on at least 30 to 50 demo trades.
- You can calculate position size from stop distance without hesitation.
- You know where your margin call and stop-out levels sit for your planned balance.
- Your largest losing streak would not have caused unacceptable damage on a real account of your intended size.
- You are prepared to lose the money you plan to deposit.
Meeting these criteria does not mean you will be profitable. It means you are less likely to lose money through avoidable mechanical mistakes.
Practising Position Sizing on Your Demo
If you only practise one skill on a demo, make it position sizing. It is the skill that most directly determines how long a real account survives, and a demo is the perfect place to make it automatic.
The building blocks
JustMarkets' help centre explains lot sizes in the standard way: 1 standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency, 0.1 lot (a mini lot) is 10,000 units and 0.01 lot (a micro lot) is 1,000 units. For gold (XAUUSD) the contract size is 100 ounces per lot. On a Standard Cent account the same lot conventions apply but balances and profits are shown in US cents, which is what makes very small real positions possible.
A simple sizing method
- Decide your risk per trade as a percentage of balance, for example 1%.
- Place your stop-loss where your strategy says the trade idea is wrong, and measure the distance in pips.
- Work out the value of one pip for one lot on that instrument in your account currency. For EURUSD on a USD account, one pip on one standard lot is about $10.
- Divide the money you are willing to risk by (stop distance in pips × pip value per lot). The result is your lot size.
Hypothetical worked example
Hypothetical, for illustration only. You have a $1,000 demo balance and risk 1%, so $10 per trade. Your EURUSD stop-loss is 25 pips away. One pip on one standard lot is about $10, so 25 pips is about $250 per lot. $10 divided by $250 is 0.04 lots. If the stop were 50 pips away, the size would halve to 0.02 lots. Practise this calculation on every demo trade until you can do it in seconds; many traders use a spreadsheet or a position-size calculator to remove arithmetic errors.
Watch the margin level, not just the profit
In the MetaTrader Trade tab, keep an eye on the margin level percentage. With your planned leverage and position sizes, see how far the price would have to move against you before the margin level drops to 40% (margin call) and then 20% (stop-out, when positions start closing automatically). If that distance is uncomfortably small, your positions are too large for your balance, whatever the leverage setting.
What to Practise on Different Instruments
| Instrument group | What to learn on demo | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Major forex pairs (e.g. EURUSD) | Basic execution, pip values, session behaviour | Spread widening around rollover and major news |
| Gold (XAUUSD) | Larger price swings, contract size of 100 oz per lot | Moves can be fast; position size carefully. Raw Spread commission on gold is $3.5 per lot per side |
| Indices (e.g. US30, US500) | Point values and trading hours | Gaps at market open; different suffixes (.std on Standard) |
| Stocks | Contract specifications and trading hours | Not available on Standard Cent accounts |
| Crypto | Weekend trading and high volatility | Wider spreads and large overnight moves; not on Standard Cent |
Before practising any instrument, open its contract specification in MetaTrader (right-click the symbol in Market Watch and choose Specification) to check contract size, margin requirements, swaps and trading hours. Learning to read specifications on a demo is a habit that prevents expensive surprises later.
Demo Accounts, Regulation and Your Country
A demo account involves no money, so regulation matters less for practice than for live trading. It still matters for your next step, because the JustMarkets company that would hold a real account depends on your country of residence. The registration screen shows which company you are signing up with, and it is worth noting that before you ever fund an account. Our guide on which country JustMarkets is from explains the group's entities and licences.
Remember too that JustMarkets does not serve residents of some countries, including Australia, Canada, Japan, India, the United Kingdom and the United States, and that EU and EEA residents are served by a separate EU entity with different conditions, such as lower leverage limits. If you live in a country with specific local rules, read the relevant country guide first; for example, readers in Southeast Asia can see whether JustMarkets is legal in Indonesia, and readers in South Africa can see our South Africa guide.
Moving From Demo to a Real Account: What Changes
When you decide to go live, you use the same Personal Area. Opening a real account follows the same My Accounts route, but you click Open Real Account instead of Try Demo. The differences you will notice:
- Verification: real accounts require JustMarkets' verification process, starting with your email and personal details and continuing with proof of identity and proof of residence.
- Funding: minimum deposits are $10 for Standard and Standard Cent and $200 for Pro and Raw Spread, with payment-method minimums on top.
- Execution: real trades meet real liquidity, so slippage and fills can differ from what you saw on demo.
- Psychology: expect to feel more hesitant, or more impulsive, than on demo. Start smaller than you think you need to.
Keep your demo open after going live. It remains the right place to test new ideas, new instruments or new indicators before they touch your real balance.
Hypothetical Examples: Using a Demo the Right and Wrong Way
The two scenarios below are hypothetical and simplified to illustrate common patterns. They are not real trading results and do not predict future performance.
Hypothetical example 1: the oversized demo
Daniel opens a Standard demo with a $100,000 virtual balance and maximum leverage. He opens 5-lot positions on gold, doubles the balance in a fortnight during a strong trend, and opens a real account with $300 believing he has found a winning method. On the real account, the same habits mean even 0.10-lot positions risk a large share of his balance, and a normal pullback takes his margin level towards the 20% stop-out. The demo did not mislead him; the unrealistic set-up did.
Hypothetical example 2: the realistic demo
Mei plans to deposit around $200. She opens a Standard Cent demo with a matching virtual balance, which displays as 20,000 USC, and chooses a moderate leverage setting. She risks 1% per trade, logs every trade and reviews weekly. After a month her demo result is roughly flat, but she has followed her rules on 40 trades and knows exactly how a losing streak feels in her account. She moves to a small real Standard Cent account with the same rules, aware that real fills and emotions may produce different results. Her demo built habits rather than false confidence.
Hypothetical example 3: testing an Expert Advisor
Omar has an MT4 Expert Advisor bought online. Rather than running it on real money, he opens an MT4 Raw Spread demo and an MT4 Standard demo, attaches the EA to both and lets it run for three weeks. He notices that the EA's many small trades make costs significant, and that on the Standard demo the wider spread consumes most of its gains. He also learns that because his MT4 demo is archived after 45 days without a login, he must log in regularly to keep the test running. The demo saved him from discovering these issues with real money.
JustMarkets Demo vs the Alternatives
A broker demo is not the only way to practise. Here is how it compares with other options.
| Option | Cost | Realism | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| JustMarkets demo account | Free | High for platform and pricing; simulated liquidity | Archived after inactivity; no emotional pressure |
| JustMarkets Standard Cent real account | From $10 | Real execution and real emotions in tiny sizes | Real money at risk, though small |
| Charting-platform paper trading | Often free | Good for chart practice | Prices and costs may not match your broker's account |
| Back-testing in MetaTrader's Strategy Tester | Free with the platform | Useful for rule-based EAs on historical data | Historical data and modelling quality limit accuracy |
| Demos at other brokers | Usually free | Similar in concept | Their costs and conditions differ from JustMarkets' |
The broker demo has one big advantage over generic paper trading: it reproduces the specific account conditions you would trade with JustMarkets, including spreads, commissions on Raw Spread, swaps, suffixes and margin rules. If you have already chosen JustMarkets as a candidate broker, practise on its demo rather than elsewhere. If you are still comparing brokers, running demos at two or three in parallel is a sensible, free way to compare platforms and costs.
Common Mistakes With JustMarkets Demo Accounts
- Using an unrealistic virtual balance. Match the demo to your intended deposit.
- Practising on the wrong account type. Costs and lot conventions differ; mirror the account you plan to use.
- Picking maximum leverage by default. Use the leverage you would actually choose live.
- Mixing up platforms. MT4 demo credentials will not work on MT5 and vice versa.
- Ignoring swaps. Demo accounts always include swaps, which matter for multi-day trades.
- Treating demo profits as proof. Demo results do not include the emotional pressure and execution variability of live markets.
- Letting the demo lapse. MT5 demos can be archived after 14 days without trading, MT4 demos after 45 days without login.
- Creating a second Personal Area just for demos. JustMarkets allows one Personal Area per client; open demos inside it.
- Not keeping a journal. Without records, a month of demo trading produces impressions rather than evidence.
Troubleshooting: Demo Account Problems and Fixes
"I can't log in to my demo in MetaTrader"
Check three things: the platform matches the account (MT4 or MT5), you are using the trading password rather than the Personal Area password, and you have selected the correct demo server. If the login is correct but the terminal shows "No connection", try rescanning servers or restarting the terminal; JustMarkets has a help article on this error.
"My demo account has disappeared"
It has most likely been archived for inactivity. Open a new demo from My Accounts; it takes a minute. To avoid it happening again, trade or log in regularly.
"I want to reset my demo to a smaller balance"
Change Balance cannot reduce the balance below the current amount. Open a new demo with the balance you want.
"The buy and sell buttons are greyed out"
Possible reasons include the market being closed for that instrument, selecting a symbol that is view-only (grey or with a .view suffix), or being logged in with an investor (read-only) password. Check trading hours and the symbol suffix, and log in with the main trading password.
"I get a 'Not enough money' error"
Your free margin is too low for the position size. Reduce the lot size, close other positions, or increase the demo balance. This is valuable practice: on a real account the same error means you are trying to over-trade your balance.
"My demo results look better than my real results"
That is common. Demo trades are processed internally with simulated liquidity, and live trading adds slippage, emotion and hesitation. Compare your live journal against your demo journal to identify where behaviour changed.

You can run unlimited MT4 and MT5 demos across all four account types and top up the balance whenever you need to.
The real value comes from how you set it up. Mirror the account you would trade live, use a realistic balance and leverage, log every trade, and keep the account active so it is not archived. Treat demo results as evidence about your process, not as a forecast of live profits, and consider a small Standard Cent account as a bridge if you decide to trade with real money.
🔥 Your next move: set up your practice account the realistic way: launch your JustMarkets demo with virtual funds, match it to the account you would trade live, and keep a journal from your very first trade.
📌 Important: CFD Risk Warning and Disclosure
CFDs and margin forex are leveraged products. Leverage magnifies gains and losses alike, so a small price move against you can wipe out your deposit quickly. Many retail traders lose money when trading CFDs, and you should only trade with money you can afford to lose after making sure you understand how margin, leverage, swaps and stop-outs work.
